Must we do nothing to stop this force, Must we give in to such oppression? This defiance, This depression?
Are we to sit here, clinging to our mothers? Laughing our troubles away with booze and drugs, Blind injustice, cowering away Scared enough, we leave our loved ones astray
Beyond the point of no return And yet we procrastinate Ignoring our troubles and the world around Leaving everything to fate
People lay sick in the flooded streets People are dying, young and old How dare we abandon them? How dare we be so bold?
Forsaken and forgotten, cold and alone And yet no one will care No one will go to their aid No one will take that simple dare
Have we sunk to this level? We say we want to help, we pretend to strive And yet we are liars and fools All afraid to take that dive
Orphans cling to their parents corpses Bodies lay scattered, decaying by the hour And we force them to face their fears Forcing them into a world so sour
Hearltess, We abandon and condemn them to a fate so vile Yet it is us who are the cowards Afraid to walk outside, afraid to reconcile
In the midst of Katrina chaos, we stop and wonder How can a single storm cause such pain? We say we give all we can, and we do But our efforts are truly in vain
