Dergible, still managing to smile even after witnessing Terra’s reaction, sighed breathily and made eye contact again with Adelaide. Hearing the daughter’s explanation of Terra’s departure, Dergible extended his fingers and lifted his palms.
“Oh my. I do not doubt that someone such as myself, whom-ud play tricks with strange contrivances, would be a-difficult to trust”, he replied after Terra had been long out of sight, “There’s a fine vari’ty of magic in our world though. Elementalists. Conjurers. And even ‘mong them are categories. However, the least I can do is say that my intentions are fair and I mean no ‘arm ‘tall.”
Dergible’s mouth thinned into another of his huge smiles and he tilted his head, taking his emerald crowned cane back into his lap. “I ‘spose I have a bit of explaining to do about the whole Acad’my deal, and why I’m here”, he finally remarked, “After all, it’d not hurt a thing if you relayed what I say now to your father. C’rrect?”

Adelaide brushed the skirt of her dress off, grabbing hold of the fabric to the side, betwixt elegant fingers which then lifted said skirt slightly. The woman took a step forward towards the man, she smiled softly as she made her way past the chair, standing just at the step. Amber eyes stared off into the distance, fingers clenched themselves around the tattered fabric of the dress. ”Magic, Illusion, Witchcraft, is it not all the same? All of which are deceiving the mind.” She stated, eyes never wavering and her tone somewhat drifting. Adelaide broke her gaze as the man spoke again she seemed to almost jump as she did so, and then a sigh set forth from her as she looked upon the guest. “Lord Effectus you must excuse me, but my curiosity is plaguing my mind and I must know what is beyond the orchard. Will you accompany me? You have captured my interest with your trickery..” She bowed her head as she spoke, eyes peering up at him as she spoke.
Adelaide stood to her full stature, she folded her hands in front of her abdomen and smiled, lips parting to show a set of pearly whites. A soft laugh emitted from her and porcelain cheeks morphed into ones of cherry. It was odd for her, to be alone with a guest, let alone a male guest, over the years she had spent much time with the farm hand, which consisted of all men, save for her, and yet she stood here as awkward as a little girl with a school boy. Adelaide fought to keep her poise she wanted so much to be able to squirm and to fidget, she awaited the guests reply anxiously, her eyes casting their glance sideways..

Dergible rose to his feet with a feathery lightness, snatching his cane and tapping it against the floor of the porch. He adjusted his vest, then his inner coat, then the outer, all while smiling back at Adelaide politely.
“On the way I can explain myself then”, he said, turning his green gaze ever so briefly over the yard, “I’ll follow you anywhere, ma’am!” His head was at an indiscriminate tilt, the single crystal monocle on his eye rarely without a landscape glare.

Adelaide lifted the skirt of her dress once more and placed a foot upon a creaking wooden step. Each step she took was full of grace and carefully thought out, her feet hit the steps with caution, as the steps had seen better days. ”Watch your step.” Her voice called out to him. A thoughtful smile caressed her face, warming the milk-white complexion.
As she stepped upon the terra firma she gazed up at Dergible, catching glimpse of the glare within his monocle. She could see most of the farm’s land within the glass sphere, the milking barn, the hen’s house, the fields of corn, and beyond. Adelaide turned her head to the side and tresses of flame dangled into her visage. She laughed to herself at the man’s last remark and brushed it out of the way with her hand. ”Lord Effectus, please, explain yourself. Do tell me more.” She laughed as she spoke, her body turning towards him, and her pace became a bit slow as she waited for him to catch up.
